Chess Club has Changed for 2010
by David Wilbanks on September 1, 2010
Here is an important note from Mr. Gallagher:
Parents,
For the 2010-2011 school year students in grades 4-6 will have an opportunity to participate in the Chess Club at Butler. In the past Chess Club has been open to all students in grades 1-6. It was exciting to see over 125 students sign up and participate in the Chess Club, however, the large number of students created a concern with the quality of Chess Club and with supervision.
While our goal in Chess Club is to allow students an opportunity to learn the game of chess and to refine their chess skills, our top priority remains student safety and supervision. Grade level participation in Chess Club will be reassessed after Chess Club begins.
Chess Club registration forms will be made available at the beginning of September. The following are the meeting dates for the 2010-2011 Chess Club. Tournament dates will be posted at a later time.
If you have any questions, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Daniel Gallagher
Assistant Principal

Want to keep up-to-date with important BDC info right on your cell phone? Text “follow butlerdadsclub” to 40404. That’s it! You will start receiving SMS text messages from the Butler Dads Club with important information regarding events and and other news you need to know about in a timely fashion. You will only receive one or two texts per month, so there is no excuse for not signing up.
You can also follow us on twitter to receive the same updates. Use the link at the bottom of the sidebar and start following us today.
Thanks to all the new dads that signed up this week.
by David Wilbanks on August 27, 2010
We want to thank all of the dads that filled out a Butler Dads Club information sheet during the grade level meetings held this week. We’ll be drawing the winner of the $100 gift certificate to Buck N Loons at our first meeting in September. So if you haven’t filled out your yellow BDC form, do it by Friday, September 3rd or you’ll miss out.
We have quite a few new members this year. We look forward to meeting everyone at our first meeting on September 7th at 7:00pm.
The Butler Dads Club 2010–2011 Calendar is now live
by David Wilbanks on August 27, 2010
The Butler Dads Club is now keeping a public calendar of events up on Google Calendar. You can also find a live version here on our web site for easy reference. There is a link over in the sidebar for quick reference under the Upcoming Events and Popular Pages sections in the sidebar.
We don’t have all the dates finalized but we have most of them already added to the calendar. Important dates include:
- First Meeting — Sep. 7th, 7pm
- Father Son Disc Golf — Sep. 18th, 7pm
- Father Daughter Dance — Nov. 12th, 6:30pm
The great thing about using Google to store our calendar is that Google integrates with just about every calendar application or phone in existence. Our Calendar page has links for iCal, XML and HTML formats so that you can automatically have the BDC events updated on your personal calendar and phone.
Get Approved!
by David Wilbanks on June 25, 2010
All volunteers for the Butler Dads Club must be approved by the AISD prior to volunteering for an event where students are present. Volunteers need to complete an Arlington Independent School District Volunteer Application each school year.
Forms can be optained from the Butler office or from the Community Programs Department at AISD. You will also need to have a copy made of your drivers license to complete your application.
Individuals applying to be a volunteer for AISD must agree to a criminal history record background check. Schools may only utilize volunteers who are on the current list of “Approved” volunteers for that campus. Volunteers are placed on an “Approved” list when a clear criminal history has been received from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
If you were approved last year, your Volunteer status is good through October 15th of this year. However the process takes about 6 weeks, so it is important you get your forms in as soon as possible! The quickest method is to go to the AISD Community Programs Department at the AISD Annex V Bldg., 1333 W. Pioneer Pkwy 76013 (view map)
